The Dragonmage Aza’ardon’s beginnings are now lost to the ages, but his treacherous hand in the spectacular fall of the Tower and his eventual transformation to the much-feared Dread Overlord is well-documented. His story (that is, the one that is known) begins in the desert city of Thanos, where the High Mages rule.
Not every baby is cute. That is a fact. Yes, some babies turn out to look like complete angels, but most babies are actually quite ordinary looking. But because of their innate babyness, with their big googly eyes, innocent smiles, and incoherent, but totally adorable gurgling, even plain babies are considered cute, causing adults to act all silly and go “Goo! Widdle baby, poo!” at them. But for some babies, the very unfortunate few, even being a baby cannot overcome their ugliness.
The high priest’s orders were explicit. Round up the cultists that dare threaten the sanctity and dominion of his temple over his city and kill them. The cultists belong to a dangerous group, at least according to the priests of the Temple of Sardonyx, whose philosophy and celebrated lifestyle is of particular virulence. It corrupts, warned the priests, and consumes the soul in its decadence. It lures its prey with sins of the flesh.
